Taith i Fleur de Lys oedd o’n blaenau yn rownd gyntaf Powlen Swalec ar Ddydd Sadwrn 15th. Â hwythau yn adran 3(a) ddwyreiniol, roedden ni’n rhagweld 80 munud caled o’n blaenau. Cafwyd dechrau cryf gan y tîm cartref, ond methu oedd hanes eu cyfle cyntaf at y pyst, ac wedi tua chwarter awr, roedd y Clwb wedi setlo i’w patrwm, ac yn dechrau rheoli’r meddiant. Yr hyn yr oedd ei hangen oedd pwyntiau, ac ymhen ychydig dros hanner awr, roedd Pablo Rodriguez wedi cicio 9 o bwyntiau gyda’i droed chwith cywir. Cymerodd y tîm cartref cyfle ola’r hanner, trwy gicio cic gosb, ac wrth droi, roedd y Clwb 9-3 ar y blaen, a’r gêm yn dal i fod yn y fantol.
Ond ar ddechrau’r ail hanner, llwyddodd pac y Clwb ennill goruchafiaeth, ac roedden ni’n gallu chwarae ar y droed flaen. Daeth cic gosb arall i Pablo, cyn i Gruff Ifor groesi am gais, wedi gwaith adeiladol pwrpasol ac amyneddgar.
Cafwyd sawl cyfle arall i ychwanegu at y fantais, ond erbyn y diwedd, roedden ni’n gwbl haeddiannol o’n buddugoliaeth o 19-3. Roedd hi wedi bod yn berfformiad calonogol, ond â phawb yn gwybod bod digon o le i wella dros yr wythnosau a’r misoedd sydd i ddod.
Fleur de Lys were our opponents in the first round of this year’s Swalec Bowl on Saturday 15th. With them in division 3(a)East, we all knew that a stern challenge lay ahead. The home team started strongly, and had the first scoring opportunity, but saw a penalty drift wide. Within about a quarter of an hour, Clwb had settled into their patterns, and were beginning to control possession. What was required was points, and these duly arrived in the form of 3 penalties converted by Pablo Rodriguez’s accurate left boot. The home side got on the scoreboard late in the first half, meaning that, a the interval, we turned around 9-3 ahead, with the game still in the balance.
But as the second half got under way, the Clwb pack began to gain the edge, giving us the opportunity to play on the front foot. Pablo kicked another penalty, before Gruff Ifor crossed for the game’s first try, following a purposeful and patient build-up. Several further opportunities to extend the lead were spurned, but as the final whistle blew, we were worthy winners by 19-3. It had been a promising and commendable display from the team, but with all parties aware that there’s plenty of room for improvement over the course of the next few weeks and months.
