It was great to be out, in the sun, playing rugby again and on St David’s day!
The game against Canton saw CRCC Dan 10 show some real flare with 12 tries in total (to 7 by Canton).
Play of note yesterday includes:
Tackles – Niamh, Trystan and Benn were noted for putting in some crunching tackles, Tomos Williams made two, try saving tackles to put the player into touch and Steff J, Tomos W , Lenny, Osian C and Dylan were all seen making an excellent effort on the tackle front.
As for interplay, Dan 10s are becoming known for their silky handling! The game saw some lovely interplay between, notably, Steff J and Brychan, as well as Niamh, Osian C and Harri, as well as Harri and Steff J and Tomos D and Benn, some leading to tries. Our ability to keep the ball alive and moving is what enables Clwb to score as it does.
There were some nice angles of running, especially from Harri D for his try, Steff J (for his try), Lenny (for his try) and Brychan for his try.
We have been encouraging supporting runners recently, to ensure that the player is on the ball carriers shoulders. A big well done to Osian M, Cian and Fred for making sure that they were there ready to take the pass or ruck over, if necessary.
And talking of rucking, our big hitters this week were Niamh, Trystan and Steff J. We were even turn ball over by reacting to ball on the ground.
A couple of players really stepped up in terms of thinking on their feet and playing what was in front of them. Well done to Lenny, Harri D, Steff J, Osian M and Brychan for keep their eyes open and scanning the field.
We are beginning to see greater communication and well done to Lenny and Brychan, on separate occasions, calling the line and for Tomos W for trying to pull the defence over to the touch line to prevent a try.
We have been doing some work on reacting to the ball on the floor and it was great to Benn and Brychan reacting to a bobbling ball and taking control.
As for our try scorers today, there were many. Well done to Steff T for scoring 2 tries, Harri for his hattrick, Brychan for his sneaky jinking, Steff J (who fingers being bandaged with packing tape seemed to really inspire him), Lenny for his hattrick, Tomos D for his 2 tries and Benn for his two tries.
It was really difficult to pick Ser y Gêm today. The work rate was really high. Well done to Niamh, Harri, Steff T and Benn but the two who pipped it today are Steff J for his nice running, intelligent rucking and trying scoring and to Lenny for his communication, lovely angles and intelligent play (as well as his tries).
