It was nice to see some sunshine for the game against a rather larger than Clwb, Fairwater team.
The courage and determination of the children was excellent. Again, despite the difference in size, the children were not scared to put in the tackles. You will see that the list of notable tackles (and every player put in a good effort so these are only those which caught my attention), is long including: Tomos W, Steff J, Tomos D, Arthur, Benn (whose tackles were hard and numerous), Brychan (who put in a text book one from behind), Harri, Trystan (who put in some extremely hard tackles) and Steff T.
We did suffer a bit from Fairwater’s quick tackle and jackal, with Fairwater turning over a number of balls. However, we still did ruck well when rucking was needed. A big hand goes, in particular, to Trystan, Cian, Benn, Twm, Arthur, Seth S and Seth J for getting stuck in.
Our game is based upon the players’ ability to throw the ball around. This week, for some reason, there was a bit more one-handed carrying and not looking for the support but we still saw some good interplay between the players. We say Lenny to Steff J for the first try, then Brychan to Twm to Steff J and also Twm to Lenny to Brychan to Steff T. The players’ ability to get the ball to the end of the line is why Clwb D10s play well.
We also see some pretty intelligent choices in terms of running angles or runs which cut through or broke through the defence. Well done to Tomos W, Efan, Lenny, Harri and Brychan in particular, who made many yards because of the angles chosen. There was also good support running from Steff T, Twm and, Seth J. Samuel also got his hands on the ball and had a nice run.
Of note, in terms of accurate, “tidy” passes, a big hand goes to Lenny and Cian who put some great passes in in the centre.
Often underrated, is the holding of the defensive line. Well done to Osian C and Seth S for holding that line and not falling back to the bunch behind the breakdown.
And well done to Lenny, Benn and Brychan who were calling the attacking and defensive lines.
Our try scorers this week were: Steff (2 tries), Harri, Steff T and Brychan
And Ser y Gêm were Steff T (for his lovely runs, intelligent play and his sleek hands) and Twm for his quick reactions, great rucking and courageous contact.
Ymlaen Clwb!
